- #001 All About Japanese Characters

First, to begin with we will study Japanese characters. These Japanese characters are the foundation of studying Japanese. I will explain each type of characters and how they are used, so let’s be sure to memorize them.

- #002 This time we will study Hiragana(1)

First we will study all 15 characters in the a-row, ka-row and sa-row until we can read and write them in Hiragana and Katakana.

- #003 This time we will study Hiragana(2)

Next, let’s study all 20 hiragana characters and katakana characters in the ta-row, na-row, ha-row, ma-row until we are able to read and write each one.

- #004 This time we will study Hiragana(3)

Finally, let’s study the 10 Hiragana and Katakana characters of the ya-row, ra-row, wa-row so until we are able read and write them.

- #005 This time we will study Hiragana(4)

This time we will look at the change in pronunciation of the characters we studied last time when a thing called a「濁点(だくてん)」 (voicing mark, also called tenten) or a 「半濁点(はんだくてん)」 (also called maru) is added. Then, we will look at the character we didn’t study last time, 「ん」.

- #006 This time we will study Hiragana(5)

This time we will study two slightly difficult pronunciations called 拗音(ようおん), or a diphthong, and 促音(そくおん). These are both very important learning points. Please master this lecture.

- #007 This time we will study Hiragana(6)

Next, we will study about 「促音」, also called chiisai-tsu.
The 促音 is written as a small 「っ」, as in 「きって」. However, it takes the form of a soundless pause for one mora.

- #008 This time we will study Hiragana(7)

This time we will study a sound called 長音(ちょうおん), or a long vowel, where the sound is elongated and we will also study how to count. These are both very important learning points. Please master this lecture.

- #009 (noun 1) is (noun 2) (1).

From here on out we will study grammar.
First, let’s work on being able to use the most basic phrase 「AはBです」.

- #010 (noun 1) is (noun 2) (2).

The grammatical structure 「AはBです」「はです」we just studied can also be used to express a person’s name, citizenship, status or profession.

- #011 (noun 1) is (noun 2) (3).

This time we will study the negative sentence form 「AはBじゃまりません」 (A is not B), and the interrogative sentence 「AはBですか?」 (Is A B?), which use that pattern as a base.

- #010 (noun 1) is (noun 2) (4).

This time we will focus on applied uses of these sentences.
